Saturday, April 20, 2013 2nd Annual Children’s Peace Garden Earth Day Celebration
to Connect Children and Families to Fresh Food, Local Honeybees and Healthy Bodies
The celebration will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 from 10am to 2pm at the Children’s Peace Garden located at 1630 Hawthorn in Boulder. This event is free!
April is the ideal time to explore the beauty of Growing Gardens’ organic farm as everything is budding to life. Children will be able to plant seeds to take home, investigate insects’ habitats, explore the worm composting system, learn about local honeybees and create garden art. There will also be an obstacle course on-site where kids will learn about endurance and agility as they weave through a diverse set of garden mazes and obstacles. Prizes are awarded to everyone completing the course.
Live bluegrass music will be performed by banjo-legend Robby Loeb and friends from Harmony Music House. Their harmonizing vocals and three-piece ensemble guarantees merriment in the garden. Yvonne will be on site with her Fun and Fancy Face Painting.
Admission and all activities are free and most appropriate for children 3 to 10 years old. Face painting does have a fee associated with it. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to The Children's Peace Garden.
The 2nd Annual Children’s Peace Garden Celebration is sponsored by Madhava Natural Sweeteners, Whole Foods Market, SolarCity and Tebo Development. Everyone will receive honey samples from Madhava Natural Sweeteners, free compost from Whole Foods Market and can enjoy product demonstrations by SolarCity.
Growing Gardens is located on the last remaining piece of agriculturally zoned land in the City of Boulder. Throughout the day, tours will be given of this unique, urban agricultural site. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Cultiva! Youth Project, Horticultural Therapy Gardens, Community Gardens and our Greenhouse.
