Growing Gardens‚ mission is to enrich the lives of Boulder County residents through environmentally sustainable gardening programs that empower people to experience a direct and deep connection with plants, the land and each other.
Community Gardens
Be among the flowers and plants and help with garden maintenance
and other general workdays.
Boulder
County Food Project
Help create new gardens in low-income neighborhoods or teach classes
on gardening. The Boulder County Food Project teaches families in need
of food to grow organic produce and prepare healthy meals with it.
¡CULTIVA!
Youth Project
Volunteers can work with the Cultiva! teenagers ages 11-19 in this program.
The Cultiva youth cultivate a 1.5 acre garden. They sell their produce
weekly at the Boulder County Farmers Market and donation a portion to
the community. Volunteer activities include helping maintain the garden,
including planting, weeding, mulching and harvesting. Volunteers can
also contribute to the Cultiva youth program by teaching skills to the
teens. In the past we've had volunteers teach yoga classes, nutrition
workshops, job skills, composting techniques. We are open to suggestions
and would love to have you get involved.
Children's Peace
Garden
Volunteers can help this program in two different ways. The garden beds
in the Children's Peace Garden always need a little loving care. Volunteers
can "Adopt-a-Bed" in the garden. Examples of garden beds that
can be "adopetd" include: The Salsa Garden, The Pizza Garden,
The Butterfly Garden (which attracts pollinators), The Sunflower House,
The Bean Pole Tee-Pee's, The Edible Flower Garden and the Salad Garden.

Greenhouse plant propagation.
Spring is a busy time in the Greenhouse and we can always use
more help. Volunteers can help with plant propagation and learn techniques
such as sowing seeds and transplanting. We grow plants for all our programs
in the greenhouse in the spring and also grow a number of tomatoes,
veggies and herbs to sell at our spring plant sale.
Horticultural Therapy
Program
Help teach horticultural therapy classes for disabled and elderly community
members or help maintain these garden beds.
Neighborhood Compost
Project
Volunteer to help build or maintain compost windrows.
Fundraising
Serve on a fundraising committee, get involved with fun events such
as the annual Plant
Sale (May), or help with the ¡Cultiva! Harvest Dinner (fall),
the Compost Sale (March), or help create new ways to generate support
for Growing Gardens. You could even help with grant writing.
Administration
We always need people with special skills on the computer, with
accounting, or with data management to assist with our office duties!
Equipment repair and
maintenance
Wheelbarrows, shovel handles, and lots of other tools require repair
and maintenance. You can help keep community gardeners supplied with
tools for good gardening.
Community
Gardeners Community Service Requirements
Four hours of Community Service time (per plot per year) must be given
to participate in the Community Garden Program. This is in addition
to maintenance of your plot and pathways. This will be tracked
closely. Failure to do these hours will result in non-renewal of the
garden plot or a fine of $80 to renew the plot the following year. There
are many tasks needing to be completed and the office is open to unique
and creative suggestions. There are specific garden days that will be
scheduled throughout the season. Each work day will be supervised by
a Garden Leader and hours will be recorded by them. Other events and/or
activities please coordinate with Garden Leaders or the Community Garden
Coordinator who will record the community service hours.
