The Children’s Peace Garden offers four day summer camps with four different themes. Summer camp runs Monday – Thursday from 9am-3pm. The 2009 summer schedule is as follows.

Children's Peace GardenJune 8-June11 Planting a Plenty
It’s summertime again and we’ve saved some planting in the garden for you! While designing our garden, we’ll learn about different seeds, how they are spread by animals and the wind and what they need to grow. We’ll plant, grow and taste from the salad, strawberry and edible flower garden. Along the way, we’ll build exciting new relationships with people, plants and insects. Spend four fun-filled days learning in the Children’s Peace Garden.

June 22-June 25 Garden Olympics
On your marks, get set, go! Compost relay races, insect scavenger hunts and field games will fill our days in the garden. We'll learn how to keep our bodies and minds strong by growing and eating healthy food. This will be an active week filled with laughter and celebration as we explore the importance of healthy bodies in the garden growing healthy food.

Children's Peace GardenJune 29-July 2 Art in the Garden
Spend four creative days painting with vegetables, creating natural dyes and making candles with wax from the bee hives. We’ll also write poetry, dance, make musical instruments and sing in the garden. Guest artists will join us to create a rich assortment of art. At the end of the summer we will join with ¡Cultiva! to display our artwork at a local coffee shop!

July 13-July 16 Bugs, Butterflies and Bees
Enjoy the fruits of the harvest this week! We’ll cook using the power of the sun, explore the five senses through tasting in the garden, harvest food from the ¡Cultiva! Youth Project field, and snack from the salsa, pizza, edible flower and strawberry beds. As we harvest and taste, we’ll create garden recipes to share at home!

July 27-July 30 Tractors and Tools
Let’s explore the use of tractors and tools on the urban farm! The Cultiva! farmer will introduce us to Bucky and Big Blue, our two trusty tractors. Bucky and Big Blue will help us to create new compost windrows and prep new garden beds. Our bird and insect friends need new habitat in the garden. The Cultiva teens will assist us in working together to build new bird and bee homes. We’ll also learn about all kinds of garden tools; from cultivating the soil to moving big piles of leaves and dirt. Tractors and tools are a farmer’s friend!

August 3-August 6 Tasty Treats from the Garden
Enjoy the fruits of the harvest this week! We’ll cook using the power of the sun, explore the five senses through tasting in the garden, harvest food from the ¡Cultiva! Youth Project field, and snack from the salsa, pizza, edible flower and strawberry beds. As we harvest and taste, we’ll create garden recipes to share at home!
